A vegetable vendor in the early morning at the market in Hoi An.

Every backpack holiday I visit at least one local market. There is just so much going on from the way the vendors display their goods, to the people shopping, and the market vendors themselves. This photo was taken in the early morning at the market in Hoi An.

Spectacular bird, the Grey Crowned Crane.

Pongour is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Central Highlands, Vietnam. The waterfall is 100 meters wide and 40 meters, however, its flow is controlled by the Đa Nhim dam thus very noticeable in the dry season (see photo).

It is situated 50km from Dalat so it definitely takes some time to get there by motorbike. However, the sights and landscapes on the way are amazing! We combined the Pongour and Elephant waterfalls with a visit to a coffee plantation and silk farm.

A buddhist monk playing a traditional Mongolian single snare instrument.

One of the fun things to do in the Ninh Binh area is cycling through the, seemingly, endless ricefields and karst mountains. We stopped at a small temple complex where a lovely buddhist monk, in the photo, was playing a traditional Mongolian single snare instrument.

Vietnamese kid in a waterfilled ricefield.

During a hike in the highlands of Vietnam, I noticed this playing kid on the ridge of a waterfilled rice paddy, the perfect mix for a very standard North Vietnamese image.

It is difficult to find and the way down to the waterfall is overgrown and, therefore, somewhat tricky. Compared to the pricey Dambri waterfall Bo Bla is free as there is no entrance in use. Apart from some animal statues in decay, there are hardly any visitors and therefore perfect if you want to get away from the crowds. In December 2018 it looked like as if they are going to restore its glory. In this long exposure photo, I used the ND 6 stop / GND 3 stop soft from breakthrough photography
